From the journal of Jordan Holdenship:
A strange group of people came today not long after the sun rose. A rather motley looking band ranging from Elven, Half-Elven, Halfling, Dwarven, and Human. They were led into town by my neighbor, a young monk in training, by the name of Alfie. During questioning they claimed to have all been survivors of a shipwreck, “The Bastion” to be exact, that set sail some weeks ago from the free city of Irongate. Knowing the dangers of our coastal waters these days, their story seemed plausible. After taking the usual Settling Tax I released them into the local populace. It was later reported to me that they took up residence with Alfie, whose master remains missing, and Stormy, a young wizard. Aster, a young half-elf also seems to have taken up their acquaintance.
I must also report an unsettling report of two missing families. Both seemed to disappear without a trace with signs of a struggle inside the home, but no signs of forced entry. It is as if the assailants were simply invited in. One family went missing the night before the shipwrecked group arrived, and second on their first night of residence here. But as my men reported them as all attending a Bard’s performance at The Rampaging Umber Hulk, I doubt the strangers are involved. I fear this may presage some new terror unleashed on a populace that has already had it’s fill of dark times. The only evidence I have been able to gather is the following:
- An eyewitness report, by Heathon the Gnome, on the night of the first abduction, of a cloaked figure seen near the victims house. Seen with darkvision the figure appeared “skeletal”.
- An eyewitness account of a large flying creature seen that same night terrifying a local woman back into her bed.
- No signs of forced entry into either home.
- A small piece of fabric, found in the second home, presumably from a cloak spotted with dried blood; but blood that looked far older than either crime.
